According to Irish folklore, an island named Hy-Brasil would supposedly become visible from the west coast of Ireland for just one day every seven years, remaining shrouded in fog the rest of the time. Despite Hy-Brasil being a mythical place, it frequently appeared on maps as a tiny island to the west of Ireland.
In the 17th century, a member of the O’Lee family claimed to have been magically transported to the enchanted Island of Hy-Brasil, returning with a book of cures for many diseases. The manuscript was written in Irish and Latin and contained a medical treatise featuring 44 tables. These tables outlined details of various diseases, with each section divided into 99 compartments arranged horizontally, diagonally, and vertically. The tables, coloured in red and black, provided comprehensive descriptions of different diseases, encompassing names, prognoses, stages, symptoms, cures, and more.
