Lúnasa

Lúnasa is the traditional start of the harvest season. This festival inspired gathering which involved feasting, matchmaking, and trading and is celebrated on the 1st of August.

Lúnasa is often represented by Lugh’s knot. Significant in Irish culture, this knot was used to ward off evil spirits from homes and is also a symbol of eternity as it does not appear to have a beginning or end.

In this depiction of Lúnasa, the traditional knot elements have been separated from each other and distorted to create a sense of celebration reminiscent of dancing and movement. Lúnasa is a time to be energetic. It is also a time for inner growth and transformation. During Lúnasa , nature is alive, there is colour everywhere; plants and flowers are bright and vibrant in a final attempt to be noticed before the weather turns cold and dark. The colour treatment is lively and robust to reflect the harvest season.
