Samhain marks the Celtic New Year, the end of summer, and the end of the harvest season. Because the Celts believed that the day began and ended at sunset, the celebrations for Samhain began on the evening of October 31st. The beginning of winter, Halloween, all souls day, and the fire festival of Samhain marks the day when the veil between the two worlds of the living and the dead is at its thinnest.
The colour scheme for Samhain is intense, rich black, gold foil, bright pinks and purples. The Samhain symbol , printed here with a UV gloss features a looped square, known as a Bowen Knot. The Bowen Knot is a protective knot that repels evil and wards off bad luck. It was often depicted on doorways, houses, and barns to repel negative energies.
Samhain is the opposite of Bealtaine, instead of welcoming in the light, we say goodbye to it until the winter equinox when the days begin to lengthen again.
