Ancient Irish healers inherited the ability to heal through specific circumstances, such as being born as the seventh son of a seventh son, belonging to a healing family, marrying someone with the same surname, or receiving the knowledge from the original possessor. Various remedies existed for Erysipelas, a type of swelling also known as the "Rose." One such remedy involved a blend of specific herbs, known only to the healer, mixed with butter. The resulting mixture was shaped into balls and applied to the affected area three times a day. It was believed that if the sore appeared during a new moon, it would persist until the moon began to wane.
