The significance of holy wells is integral to the narrative of healing practices in Ireland, and, like many of the rituals and beliefs involving the Cure, these narratives became intertwined with Christianity. Ireland boasts hundreds of holy wells, many of which served as sacred sites long before adopting the Christian saints' names they bear today. For instance, the Well of the Eyes, known as Tobarín na Súl in Irish, located near Lough Hyne in West Cork, is believed to possess healing properties for eye ailments.

This well continues to draw regular visitors, and the adjacent rag trees are adorned with offerings such as ribbons, beads, and even people's spectacles.
